Winter fishing roach
A dace is a schooling fish and its search can be crowned with success only with good knowledge of the reservoir, habits of this fish, features of fishing and many other nuances. In the summer, it is much easier to find roach, because the fish is active and constantly in search of food. In winter, things are a little different.
When the temperature of the upper layer of water drops to 4 degrees, the fish breaks up into dense flocks and goes to the wintering pits. The pit can be from 4 meters to 15, and in very large bodies of water up to 30 meters. It should be noted that the larger the area has a reservoir, the harder it is to find fish in it. And here we come to the aid of the modern miracle of technology – the echo sounder. If one is not available, then you have to search manually, which will be discussed further.
Going on the ice, the angler must set himself the tasks that he will try to solve. The first correct task is to find the right depth. This is done quite simply. Roach in wintertime prefers to stay at depths from 3.5 to 5 meters, occasionally 6-7. In order to reach the desired depth, it is necessary to drill ten holes from the coast directly into the reservoir. After this event, the depth of the ordinary winter fishing rod is measured. Never measure the depth with an empty jig, a fish that stands under a hole can manifest itself as a bite, which will be a nice addition to the process of finding the right depth and will tell us that we are on the right track.
So, if out of 10 holes drilled by us in one or two were bites of roach, then we will focus our attention on this. Having found the desired depth and the slightest activity of the fish, we drill two more holes left and right. This is done in order to find any unevenness of the bottom: the stall, differential, curb, etc. Having found the irregularity, we do another pair of holes on each side and begin to lure. Always use a special cone trough for winter fishing, it will more clearly deliver your lure at the desired point. A blind ball will deviate from the place of catching, at least a meter and the fish will be collected there, and not at the place of catching.
Let’s talk about prikormke
Every experienced angler knows that winter bait is fundamentally different from the summer one in its composition and color. But first of all talk about the composition. Any prikormochnaya mixture has its basis. As a basis, it is advisable to use boiled and cooled porridge. Porridge should not be viscous, and therefore it should be interrupted with breadcrumbs. The smaller the fraction of your mixture, the better.
In the presence of a small fraction of the fish is not satisfied and her appetite increases. You can use pea porridge, but in fact, everything is suitable for the basis. Next, we need to darken the mixture. For such a procedure, there are branded winter bait mixes. These mixtures have their own smell, which will give even more attractiveness to our bait.
So what do we have? Winter lure consists of four elements: the base, baking powder, the darkening part and the living component. It is not difficult to guess that the fodder bloodworm acts as a living component. Bloodworm in the mixture is very important, and they should not be neglected. The only rule is: add moths must be directly on the ice.
After preparing the ground for fishing in detail, having thoroughly fed all the feeder (one feeder for each hole at the fishing spot), you can proceed. There is an opinion that if you got a roach gathering right at the bottom, then the whole flock immediately leaves the fishing point. True or not, nobody knows, but in order to prevent this situation, you should use a sharp hook. Never spare money on quality hooks, it is better to save on the rod itself, but not on the hooks.
To catch roach use two types of fishing: float fishing and mormyshku. Here, everyone is his own expert, and your tackle will depend only on your own preferences. The general inference of all anglers only about the diameter of the line. As the saying goes: “The thinner the better – but within reasonable limits.” The most popular is 0.12 mm.
Summing up, I would like to say that it is impossible to cover all the nuances and tactics of the roach’s ice fishing in one article. In addition to gear bite, well chosen place and complementary foods are also influenced by other factors, such as pressure, weather, fish activity. So, if something does not work and there is no fish – just change tactics. Happy fishing roach in the winter!
