Korean winter fishing
Recently, one of the good friends of the site makuha.com.ua returned from a business trip to South Korea. Since he is an avid angler, in spite of the frosty season, he could not help but visit several reservoirs in Korea where fishermen gather. And once again convinced that the east – a delicate matter. No, the ice on the lakes and canals is not at all thin, but the approach to winter fishing with the Koreans is somewhat different and different from ours. So let’s see how the winter fishing in Korea differs from what we have.
Many people think that in such a far, and seemingly more southern country like Korea, people did not hear about winter fishing. We think that fishing in winter is peculiar, above all, to the post-Soviet countries, where there are frosts and practically every fisherman is familiar with the mormyshka. Well, still European countries, with their developed amateur fishing. But this is not at all the case.
Frosts in Korea are really not like us, but they are quite long so that small and medium-sized reservoirs are covered with solid ice. And in winter people can fish from the ice there. And since Koreans are known to the whole world for their own unique culture, fishing from them could not help but differ from the generally accepted rules.
We visited paid and public water near Chuncheon. Feathery that catches the eye is the number of fans of winter fishing. There are really a lot of them. Especially on public free waters.
Families go to such places and take with them tents, tables, chairs, blankets and many more things without which Korean-style fishing cannot take place. If it were not for fishing rods, such groups of people could be attributed to homeless wanderers who chose the ice surface for their stay. Around the anglers run children, dogs, all play and have a lot of fun. Such fishing is more like a non family vacation.
On paid reservoirs the situation is different. Fishermen are more professional here. In Korea, it is customary to catch several fishing rods at once. On the platnik there is no limit to the number of rods. So any decent Korean catches for 5-6-7 fishing rods. In winter, the bite is not very active, and you can keep an eye on all the gear.
As for the place for one angler, there are different rules. There is no such thing that the tackle is thrown into one hole, and the fisherman is a hundred meters away and catches another. They decided to fish only where you are.
A comfortable chair is an obligatory “tackle” on fishing. Without this helper there is practically no one fisherman. Unlike our country, they rarely sit on stools and drawers.
In general, Koreans are very cheerful people. And fishermen especially. Many go fishing for pleasure.
It is clear that this pleasure on paid water costs money. In winter, the price for a light day is about $ 20-40. The catch rate is 3-5-7 kg, depending on the host, plus a size limit.
There are several fish farms in the Chuncheon area, where fishing is paid in summer and winter. Arranged fishing places comfortable. There are many floating equipped houses.
The price for such a place is not small from $ 50-100 per day per person. In winter, most of them are empty. In the cold, they catch only where the water has not frozen. But in the summer, according to local, these houses are very popular.
Many canals in this area unite the lakes among themselves. They don’t have a host, and many fishing enthusiasts use it. Catch literally in puddles at depths up to half a meter. Holes do as ice pick and ice pick.
Only float gear is used everywhere. It is not clear why the bait did not catch on.
The thing is probably that the lakes we visited specialize in breeding crucians. And in winter and summer they catch him with a simple tackle with a float.
Fishing rods use telescopic, about two meters long. And the reel clings to the end of the rod, and it floats in the water along with the float.
Most people use long rods. But there are such anglers
who take with them a cheap fishing pole about a meter long, with the reel on its end.
Almost all fishermen do not throw caught fish next to them. In the ice, they make a special depression and fill it with water.
Caught crucians launch there. A few hours later the fish freezes in the ice. Koreans consider this a certain ritual.
