We catch spring pike
Spring is the best time to catch pike. During the winter, the fish became hungry and became very active, while forgetting about caution. At first it may seem that wherever you put your gear, there will be a bite everywhere, but not everything is so simple. It is during the spring months that spawning occurs, and then the pike does not react even to the most “tasty” and attractive lures.
When is the pike and its behavior pecking?
The ideal time is the beginning of March. Rivers and streams are freed from ice, the water is filled with oxygen, and the spawning time has not yet come, and then the fish bite on almost any bait.
The advantage of fishing at such a time is the absence of hot sun, mosquitoes and midges.
Before spawning, the fish is aggressive and very hungry after a long winter, with great eagerness it takes even not very high-quality and cheap bait, because before the appearance of offspring one must have time to satisfy his hunger.
With the onset of heat, the fish goes stranded, where to hunt for fry, this is where experienced fishermen wait for it. In our country, this period corresponds to – April.
But, do not use these rules as an immediate truth, everything will depend on the reservoir and the weather. Sometimes the fish rests after spawning for a week and does not react at all to the bait, and sometimes after a couple of days it begins to hunt with might and main, it only turns out by experience.
Spinning – the best way to catch pike in the spring
In March, you can count on large and fatty specimens, which will literally jump out of the water one by one. Look for shallow places that begin to thaw, first of all there appears a small fish, and therefore a pike, which is not averse to profit from its prey.
If you want to increase biting in cold water, which has not yet had time to warm up in early spring, then use special bait with pheromones, they stimulate the predator’s appetite.
Remember, the more natural the lure looks, the more successful the spinning bite will be. This is especially true in early April, when the spawning of female specimens, but you can hope for good luck and catch a quite large male.
In April, fish are more picky at bait than at the beginning of March. No longer a rough and cheap fake.
The most unfavorable way of catching pike on spinning is May. The fish eats by this time, becomes sluggish and inactive and practically does not react to the bait. At this time, look for clean reservoirs without turbidity and aggressively “play” the bait. Use bright colors, noise signals to interest the pike.
Where to look for a predator in the spring?
Depending on the month, you will have to choose and search for different places.
March.
Thawed patches in clear waters that are well enriched with oxygen. The main feed is medium-sized fish.
April.
Shallow thickets, places with snags and other shelters where you can hide.
May.
Areas with clean and settled water, bays are well suited. Ideally, on an overcast day, early in the morning or at sunset.
